Bridging the Education Gap.

In Kabul, Afghanistan, a 10-year-old girl is not allowed to attend school. Instead, she stays at home in fear of the Taliban.

This is the ugly reality that countless children across the globe face every single day. These children are not as fortunate as Americans to have access to school. Corrupt government systems and organizations such as the Taliban have severely limited education rights. Steps must be taken to improve education in countries such as Afghanistan.

In America, although the public school system provides access to education, certain children are still placed at a disadvantage. Based on certain socioeconomic factors, students who come from poor families do not receive a quality education. A student who has to juggle three jobs to help their family, understandably, does not have time to prioritize their school work. A student with absent parental figures who has to take care of their 5 siblings struggles to make it to school on time.

What can you do to help bridge the education gap? There are many local organizations that work to bring free, quality education to children who are unable to pay for help. Learn With Us Tutoring, an Orlando-based non-profit organization, pairs student volunteers with a child to tutor. To help bridge the education gap globally, you can make charitable donations to organizations such as Unicef and World Vision Canada. These organizations work to bring better education to countries such as Afghanistan.
