Idaho Student Murders Updates.

On November 13, 2022, four students from the University of Idaho–Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Ethan Chapin, and Xana Kernodle–were fatally stabbed in their off-campus residence.

There were two other roommates in the residence at the time of the homicides, but they weren’t injured. One of the surviving roommates had given a specific description of the suspect to authorities, but Moscow Police still had difficulty in finding the suspect as no murder weapon had been found.

On November 29, 2022, a Washington State University officer came across a 2015 white Hyundai Elantra registered to Bryan Kohberger, a 28-year-old PhD student in criminology. Officials say he matched the witness’s description of the man she saw in the residence.

On Tuesday, December 27, 2022, trash recovered from the Kohberger family residence was sent to the Idaho State Lab for DNA testing. The next day, the lab reported that the DNA profile matched a tan leather knife sheath that was found on the bed of one of the victims. The DNA also matched genetic material that was recovered at the residence.

On December 30, 2022, Pennsylvania State Police and the FBI arrested Kohberger in northeastern Pennsylvania on a warrant for the murders of the four students.

On January 5, 2023, Kobherger appeared in court at the Latah County Courthouse in Moscow, Idaho.

A status hearing prior to Kohberger’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 12, 2022.
